Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/3 c. sugar, divided
  • 3/4 c. warm water (105~ to 115~)
  • 1 c. pumpkin, cooked and mashed or canned
  • 1 Tbsp. pumpkin pie spice
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 3 3/4 c. bread flour
  • 1 c. whole wheat flour
  • 2 Tbsp. bread flour

Directions

    Dissolve yeast and 1/2 teaspoon sugar in warm water in a large bowl.

    Let stand 5 minutes.

    Stir in remaining sugar, pumpkin and next 3 ingredients.

    Gradually stir in 3 3/4 cups bread flour and wheat flour to make a soft dough.

    Sprinkle 2 tablespoons bread flour evenly over work surface.

    Turn dough onto floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic (8 to 10 minutes).

    Place dough in a large bowl coated with vegetable cooking spray, turning to coat top.

    Cover and let rise in a warm place (85°) free from drafts until dough is doubled in bulk.
