- 1 lb. squash, sliced (3 1/2 c.)
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. oleo, melted
- 1/2 c. bread crumbs or Pepperidge Farm mix
- 1 c. grated cheese
- 1 (8 oz.) can sliced water chestnuts (optional)
Directions

1Cook squash, onion and salt in water until well done; drain. Add egg and butter.

2Add water chestnuts.

3Put in greased casserole in layers; make layer of squash mixture, layer of bread crumbs or stuffing and layer of cheese.

4Bake at 350° until hot throughout and bubbly.

5Makes 4 servings.
