Ingredients

  • 125 grams butter or margarine
  • 250 ml golden syrup
  • 250 grams regular flour
  • 125 grams caster sugar
  • 25 grams chocolate (can be excluded)
  • 20 grams cacao powder
  • 1 egg
  • 150 ml milk
  • dash salt
  • 1 Icing sugar for dusting

Directions

    In a pan, melt the butter and syrup together on a low heat, stir occasionally.

    When melted, remove from the heat and add the chocolate either in pieces or roughly chopped.

    Mix together the dry ingredients.

    Add the milk and the egg to the dry ingredients and combine it slightly.

    Add your butter-syrup-chocolate mix to the flour mix and stir together.

    Line a bread pan with parchment papper and pour in your chocolate mixture.

    Bake your cake at 170F celsius (338 F) for 35 minutes.

    Then cover your cake with aluminium foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.

    Take out your cake and let it cool completely before lifting it out of the bread pan.

    Then dust with icing sugar and enjoy!
