- 6 c. water
- 3 large carrots, diced
- 4 stalks celery, diced
- 1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes
- 1 large gray stone from yard, scrubbed clean
- 2 chopped onions
- 6 beef bouillon cubes
- 3 large potatoes, diced
- 1 c. chopped cabbage
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- pepper to taste (optional)
Directions

1Go the library and take out the book Stone Soup by Marsha Brown.

2Read the story before dinner.

3Make the soup, then read the story again.

4See if the children remember the ingredients. Scrub and chop all vegetables.

5Put clean stone in pot.

6Add all ingredients and cook for 1 hour or until vegetables are tender. See if your child doesn't agree if the soup isn't better when you remember the stone.
