Simple Roasted Turkey

- 1 (12 -14 lb) whole turkey (thawed if frozen)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 12 cup dried parsley flakes
- 2 tablespoons rubbed sage
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 tablespoon seasoning salt
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 34 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 6 bay leaves
- 1 large onion, cut into wedges
- 32 ounces chicken broth
Directions

1Pre-heat oven to 325F.

2Remove giblets and neck from turkey and discard (unless you need them for something else).

3Rinse turkey and pat dry with paper towels.

4Place turkey on rack in roasting pan and brush with oil.

5Mix together the dried parsley, rubbed sage, seasoned salt, garlic powder, ground black pepper, and nutmeg.

6Place 1 T of seasoning mix, bay leaves, and onion wedges inside turkey.

7Pat remaining seasoning mix over entire surface and inside skin.

8Add chicken broth to roasting pan.

9Cover turkey loosely with foil tent (shiny side in).

10Roast one hour, then remove foil (reserve for later).

11Roast another two to two and a half hours, basting occasionally with pan juices.

12If skin begins to get too brown, replace foil loosely over bird.

13Let stand 20 minutes before carving.
