  • 4 oz. fresh mushrooms or 4 oz. can sliced and drained
  • 1/2 tsp. marjoram
  • 6 slices day old bread
  • 1/2 c. shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 3 Tbsp. butter, divided
  • 1/2 c. shredded cheese
  • 1/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese
  • 6 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Directions

    In medium frypan, cook mushrooms, onion and marjoram with 1 tablespoon butter until tender.

    Spread remaining butter over one side of each bread slice.

    Cut bread in 1/2-inch cubes.

    Arrange 1/2 of the cubes over bottom of casserole.

    Pour mushroom mixture over bread cubes.

    Thoroughly combine cheeses and dry mustard and sprinkle over mushroom mixture in dish.

    Top with remaining bread cubes.

    Blend together remaining ingredients and pour over bread mixture in dish.

    Cover.

    Refrigerate several hours or overnight. Uncover dish and bake in preheated oven at 350° until golden brown.
