  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 5 tablespoons ice water
  • 1/4 cup solid vegetable shortening, chilled and cut into bits
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cut into bits

  • Approximately 1 1/2 quarts strawberries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 cup heavy cream, whipped and flavored with vanilla extract
