Sugar-Crusted Maple Cake

  • 1 pkg. yellow cake mix
  • 1 1/3 c. water
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. maple syrup

    Preheat oven to 325°.

    Using solid shortening, grease and flour 12-cup fluted tube pan (nonstick finish too).

    In large bowl blend cake mix, water and eggs.

    Beat 2 minutes at highest speed.

    Pour into prepared pan.

    Bake 40 to 50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

    In small saucepan, heat sugar and syrup until mixture boils and sugar is melted.

    Pour over hot cake.

    Cool upright in pan 15 minutes.

    Turn onto serving plate. Serve warm or cool.
