  • 2 c. raisins
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 c. dates (optional)
  • 1/4 lb. oleo
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 c. unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 tsp. artificial sweetener
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 c. nuts

    Preheat oven to 350°.

    Grease and flour a 9 x 13-inch pan. Combine raisins and water.

    Cook in covered pan until water evaporates.

    Cut up dates into hot mixture if desired.

    Add oleo and shortening.

    Stir until blended.

    Add applesauce, vanilla and artificial sweetener.

    Beat in eggs.

    Sift together dry ingredients.
