  • cucumbers
  • 3 qt. water
  • 1 qt. vinegar
  • 1 c. kosher salt
  • dill tops
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1/16 tsp. alum
  • slice of bread

Directions

    Bring water, vinegar and kosher salt to a boil and cool.

    Put cukes in jar with dill tops, garlic and alum.

    Cover with water mixture.
  4. 4
    Place slice of bread on top of cukes.
  5. 5
    Cover with foil. Set in sunlight for 3 days.

    Remove bread.

    Replace with lid.

    Keep in refrigerator.
