  • 1 bar German chocolate
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 2 1/2 c. self-rising flour
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 egg whites, beaten stiff
