- 3 c. lukewarm water
- 1 envelope yeast
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 3 c. rye flour
- 1 1/4 Tbsp. shortening
- white flour (as needed)
Directions

1Mix together the first five ingredients; let it rise until double in size.

2Add salt and shortening; mix together and add enough

3white flour to make a soft dough (not sticky or too stiff).

4Let rise until double in bulk.

5Put in two loaf pans; let rise until almost double.

6Bake at 350° for 55 minutes to one hour.
