  • round steak (2 inches thick)
  • bacon dripping or Crisco
  • 1 onion, cubed
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 (No. 2) can tomatoes
  • 2 Tbsp. flour

Directions

    Pound flour into steak. Melt fat in skillet and sear steak on both sides. Remove steak to large casserole or roaster.

    There should be at least 2 tablespoons fat remaining in the skillet. To this add the flour and blend; stir in tomatoes, seasonings and onion. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture boils. Pour over steak; cover roaster and bake in 350° oven until tender, about 3 hours.
