- 1 tsp. cream of tartar

3The syrup must be ice cold when you drop the koeksisters into it. Roll out the dough until thin; cut into 1/4-inch strips and braid, then cut each braid into 3-inch pieces.

4Fry in hot oil, three at a time.

5Drop into ice cold syrup for a few minutes.

6Take out, drain excess syrup and eat.
