Ingredients

  • 1 (16 oz.) can stewed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 3/4 tsp. dried oregano, crushed
  • 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 c. chopped green pepper
  • 1/4 c. chopped onion
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. bottled hot pepper sauce
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef (I used ground round)
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 6 c. (9 1/2 oz. pkg.) corn chips, coarsely crushed
  • 5 slices processed cheese or approximately 1/2 lb. Velveeta, sliced or shredded
  • 2 c. shredded lettuce

Directions

    In medium skillet, cook meat until browned, stirring to break up large pieces.

    Drain excess fat.

    Sprinkle with garlic.

    Place crushed chips in bottom of 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish.

    Spoon hot meat over chips.

    Spread 3/4 to 1 cup of sauce over meat.

    Top with cheese.

    Bake at 350° for 10 to 12 minutes until heated and cheese is melted.

    Top with lettuce and sauce.
