- 2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. light corn syrup
- 3/4 c. water
- few drops oil of clove
- red food coloring
Directions

1Wash and dry 10 eating apples; insert a wooden skewer in blossom end of apple.

2Combine sugar, corn syrup and water in top of double boiler; cook over direct heat, stirring, until sugar dissolves.

3Add oil of cloves and little red food coloring. Continue cooking without stirring until a drop of mixture tested in cold water forms a hard piece that cracks easily (290° on candy thermometer).

4Set pan over boiling water.

5Dip each apple into syrup quickly.

6Remove and whirl apple until syrup covers.
