Ingredients

  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2/3 c. milk

    Sift together the first 4 ingredients.

    Cut in shortening until mixture is like coarse crumbs.

    Add milk all at once.

    Stir with fork to ball stage. Knead lightly, about 10 times. Roll or pat dough 1/2 to 1-inch thick. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 450°. Makes 16 medium biscuits.
