Ingredients
- 2 c. flour
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 6 Tbsp. butter or margarine (cut into bits; chilled)
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1/4 c. currants, raisins or chopped dates
Directions

1Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl.

2Add butter bits and rub in.

3Add currants.

4Beat egg and add milk.

5Make a well in center of flour mixture; add egg/milk mixture.

6Mix until flour is incorporated.

7Turn out on floured board.

8Roll out into a 1-inch thick circle.

9(If desired, brush with lightly beaten egg white and sprinkle with coarse sugar.)

10Cut dough into 8 to 10 triangles.

11Bake on lightly greased baking sheet 15 to 20 minutes at 350°.
