- 1 2/3 c. sifted flour
- 1/4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 1 1/3 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 2 eggs
- 1 c. canned mashed pumpkin
- 1/3 c. water
- 1/2 c. walnuts, chopped
Directions

1Grease regular loaf pan.

2Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.

3Cream the shortening, sugar and vanilla.

4Add eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition.

5Stir in pumpkin.

6Add nuts.

7Blend in dry ingredients in 4 additions.

8Alternate with water until smooth. Turn batter in prepared pan.

9Bake in preheated oven at 350° for 1 hour or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean.
