  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 dash salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1-1/3 tbsp. cocoa
  • 2 tbsp. milk
  • 1 lb. sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

    Mix together sugar, flour and salt .

    Place butter, cocoa, shortening and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil.

    When it reaches a boil, add flour and sugar.

    Beat together.

    Mix buttermilk with baking soda.

    Then add eggs, buttermilk mixture and vanilla.

    Beat until smooth.

    Grease and flour pan (10x15-inch) Pour batter into pan, and bake at 350F for 20 minutes.

    Chocolate Frosting: Heat butter, milk and cocoa in saucepan for about 5 minutes before cake is done.

    Then add vanilla and powdered sugar to mixture; stir together.

    Frost cake when you take it from the oven.
