Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef or turkey
  • 1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. oregano leaves
  • 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper
  • 2 to 3 bay leaves (whole)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 (15 oz.) container Ricotta cheese
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 (12 oz.) can tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. thyme leaves
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic salt
  • 2/3 (16 oz.) pkg. lasagna noodles (about 14)
  • 1 (16 oz.) pkg. Mozzarella cheese, shredded

Directions

    In 5-quart Dutch oven cook meat and onion until browned well. Drain if necessary and add tomatoes, paste and spices.

    Heat to boiling, stirring to break up tomatoes.

    Reduce heat to simmer; cover and cook 2 hours until thick, stirring occasionally. Discard bay leaves.

    Skim off any fat.
