Ingredients

  • 3/4 cups Butter Or Margarine
  • 3/4 cups Brown Sugar
  • 1 whole Egg Yolk
  • 1-1/2 cup All-purpose Flour
  • 1/4 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1 cup Almond Brickle Pieces Or Chopped Pecans
  • _____
  • FOR THE FILLING:
  • 14 ounces, weight Sweetened Condensed Milk (1 1/4 Cups)
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla

Directions

  1. 1
In a large mixer bowl, beat the butter or margarine and brown sugar with an electric mixer till combined. Add the egg yolk; beat well. Stir in flour and salt, mixing well.
  2. 2
With floured hands, press the dough into the bottom of a greased 13x9 baking pan. Bake in a 350-degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes or till light brown. Remove pan from the oven; transfer to a wire rack while preparing the filling.
  3. 3
To make the filling, in a medium heavy saucepan, heat the condensed milk and butter over medium heat till bubbly, stirring constantly. Cook and stir for 5 minutes more. Mixture will thicken and become smooth. Stir in the vanilla.
  4. 4
Spread filling over the baked layer. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or till top is golden. Sprinkle the baked layers evenly with chocolate pieces; bake for 1 to 2 minutes more or till chocolate pieces are shiny and melted.
  5. 5
Remove from oven; transfer to a wire rack. Using a flexible spatula, immediately spread the chocolate evenly over the baked layer. Sprinkle bars with brickle pieces or pecans. Cool completely.
  6. 6
Cover and chill till chocolate is set. For triangles, cut into rectangles (about 3x2 inches each), then cut diagonally. These may be frozen for up to 3 months. Makes about 36 bars.
