Tomato Casserole

  • 2 (16 oz.) cans peeled whole tomatoes
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 4 Tbsp. margarine
  • 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 2 or 3 slices bread, crumbled
  • 3/4 c. sharp Cheddar cheese, grated

Directions

    Put the tomatoes and onion in a saucepan; bring to a boil. Add margarine, sugar, salt and oregano.

    Reduce heat to medium and cook for 5 minutes.

    Add bread and stir.

    Pour into a 1 1/2-quart lightly greased casserole dish.

    Top with grated cheese.

    Bake, uncovered, at 325° for 20 minutes or until cheese is melted.
