Ingredients

  • 1 gallon tomato juice
  • 1 pint vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 5 cloves
  • 5 whole allspice
  • 12 cup cornstarch

    take 1/2 bushel tomatoes cut up in small pieces.

    cook strain

    and to each gallon juice add 1 pint vinegar.

    2 tablespoons salt.

    1 small cup sugar.

    1 level teasppon red pepper

    1 heaping teaspoon ground mustard

    cinnamon cloves and allspice

    tie spices in cloth

    remove when done

    cooking 2 hours

    then add 1/2 cup cornstarch(this is where i think the recipe gets hinky , i think its 2 much cornstarch for each gallon

    and then cook 15 minutes more

    bottle and seal.
