Tomato Soup Cake

  • 3/4 c. shortening or margarine
  • 1 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 11 oz. can tomato soup
  • 3/4 c. water
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon, nutmeg and ground cloves

    Cream shortening (or more) and sugar.

    Add eggs; beat well.

    In another bowl, combine soup, water and soda.

    Sift together in separate bowl the dry ingredients.

    Add dry ingredients and soup alternately to cream mixture.

    Mix well and bake in 9 x 13-inch baking pan in 350° oven for 40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

    Frost with cream cheese frosting.
