Tomatoes With Stale Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 1 qt. tomato juice or canned tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • milk
  • 1 c. grated Longhorn cheese
  • 1 Tbsp. oleo
  • 6 stale biscuits or 4 slices stale bread, toasted

Directions

    Bring tomatoes or juice to boil.

    Add soda and salt.

    Keep boiling.

    Add thickening made of 2 level tablespoons of cornstarch and enough milk to make a smooth paste to which add 3 tablespoons of the hot tomatoes.

    Add this to boiling tomatoes, along with the Longhorn cheese and oleo.

    Gently stir in either the biscuits or bread, broken into pieces.
