Ingredients

  • 15 to 18 lb. turkey
  • 1 doz. eggs
  • 36 cornbread muffins, crumbled
  • 8 slices dried toast, crumbled
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 12 stalks celery, diced
  • pepper to taste
  • 6 to 8 cans chicken broth
  • 1 lb. bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • bacon drippings
  • sage to taste
  • salt
  • shortening

    Turkey:

    Remove giblets and neck from turkey.

    Wash turkey. Spread melted shortening on turkey and then shake on salt.

    Cover; leave some air.

    Add 3 cups water and cook in a 325° preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes per pound.

    After about 1 hour, uncover to brown.

    (Cook giblets in pan with turkey.)
