Turkey Chili

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground turkey
  • 3 medium onions, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp. instant minced garlic
  • 2 (15 oz. each) cans tomatoes
  • 1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (14 1/2 oz.) can chicken broth
  • 1 medium green pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 1 medium red pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 1 medium yellow pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 2 (4 oz. each) cans diced green chilies, drained
  • 2 tart apples, chopped
  • 3 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 1/2 tsp. curry powder
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp. bottled hot pepper sauce
  • 2 (15 oz. each) cans kidney beans, drained
  • 1 c. slivered almonds
  • shredded cheese (optional)

Directions

    Cook turkey, onions and garlic in Dutch oven over medium flame; drain.

    Add remaining ingredients except kidney beans, almonds and cheese.

    Bring to a boil over high flame.

    Reduce flame to simmer, cover and cook 1 hour.

    Add kidney beans and almonds.

    Simmer an additional 30 minutes.

    Garnish with shredded cheese, if desired.

    Makes 8 to 10 servings.
