  • 1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramels
  • 1/2 c. evaporated milk
  • 1 (2 layer) pkg. German chocolate cake mix
  • 1 1/3 c. water
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 c. soft butter
  • 1 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
  • 1 c. chopped pecans

Directions

    Melt caramels with evaporated milk in microwave.

    Combine cake mix, water, butter and eggs.

    Blend on low speed for 2 minutes. Pour half the batter into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes or until cake puffs up and is gooey. Pour melted caramels over partially baked layer to within 1/2-inch of edges.

    Sprinkle chips and pecans over caramels.

    Pour remaining batter over all and bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes or until top springs back when touched (may take 40 minutes).

    Cool in pan.

    Cut in squares.

    Ice, if desired (creamy fudge).
