- 1 c. margarine or butter
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 3 c. all-purpose flour
- 3/4 c. molasses
- 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 tsp. ground ginger
- 3/4 c. boiling water
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1/4 tsp. salt
Directions

1Cream the butter. Add sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, molasses and buttermilk.

2Combine flour, spices and salt. Dissolve soda in boiling water.

3Add flour mixture to creamed mixture alternately with soda water, beginning and ending with flour mixture.

4Beat well.

5Pour batter into greased baking pan and bake at 350° for 40 minutes.

6Cut into squares and serve while warm.

7Serve with Cool Whip topping.
