  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 5 Tbsp. melted shortening
  • 1 c. lukewarm water

Directions

    Into an ungreased cake pan, sift the first 6 ingredients. Make 3 depressions in the dry ingredients.

    Put vanilla in first, vinegar in second and shortening in third.

    Pour over all the water.

    Stir until a thin well mixed batter is formed.

    It should be stirred until smooth.

    Bake 30 minutes in a 350° oven.

    Leave in pan and frost.
