- 8 oz. flour
- 4 oz. butter
- 3 oz. currants
- a little milk
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 3 oz. sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg or allspice
Directions

1Mix spices and flour; rub butter into spiced flour.

2Add sugar and currants; bind with beaten egg and milk to form a stiffish paste.

3Roll out on floured board to about 1/4-inch thick.

4Cut into 2 1/2-inch rounds.

5Bake on moderately hot griddle 3 to 5 minutes each side until mottled brown.

6Sprinkle with sugar. These take only a few minutes and they're really wonderful.
