  • 5 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 scant tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 1/4 sticks margarine
  • 1 c. currants
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/4 c. milk

    Mix dry ingredients.

    Beat eggs with milk; add to dry ingredients.

    Add currants.

    Roll out 1/4-inch thick dough (add more milk if too dry).

    Fry on electric grill at 325° (stove-top grill 400°); turn once.

    For cutting out, a doughnut cutter without the center works well.
