Ingredients
- 3 c. flour
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 c. shortening
- 1 c. currants
- 2 eggs
- 6 Tbsp. milk
Directions

1Sift dry ingredients; cut in shortening with pastry blender. Add currants.

2Mix eggs and milk together and add to flour and fruit mixture.

3Dough will be stiff.

4Chill 1 to 2 hours.

5Divide dough in thirds.

6Roll out 1/4-inch thick on pastry cloth.

7Cut with circular cookie cutter.

8Grease griddle lightly or you may use electric fry pan.

9Heat to 350° to 375°.

10Bake slowly, few at a time.

11When done on 1 side, they will turn shiny and puff up. Turn and bake until golden brown.

12Cool on wire rack and dip in granulated sugar.

13Yields 48 cookies.
