Ingredients
- 2 3/4 cups water
- 1 (15 ounce) package raisins
- 4 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 1/2 cups butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 tablespoons molasses
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

2Lightly grease two 9x5 inch loaf pans.

3Combine water and raisins in a medium saucepan.

4Bring to a boil over high heat.

5Reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 minutes.

6Remove from heat, stir in baking soda and let cool.

7In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

8Stir in the eggs one at a time, beating well with each addition.

9Stir in molasses, vanilla and salt.

10Stir in flour and then beat in raisin mixture until well combined.

11Spoon batter into prepared pans.

12Bake in preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into center of the loaf comes out clean, about 50 to 60 minutes.

13Cool in pans on a wire rack.

14Serve at room temperature.
