Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 pkg. onion soup mix
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1 c. Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 c. peas (frozen or canned)
  • 1/2 to 1 c. raw rice
  • 1 c. stewed tomatoes or 1 can tomato sauce with bits

Directions

    Brown meat in skillet, stirring frequently.

    Drain any excess grease.

    Stir in onion soup mix, water, rice, peas and tomatoes. Simmer in covered skillet until rice is tender (20 to 25 minutes).

    Add a small amount of water or tomato juice if it becomes dry.

    Top with cheese.

    Cover and heat until it melts or top each individual serving with cheese as it is served.

    Serve 4 to 6.
