Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup lukewarm water
- 2 (8 ounce) packages active dry yeast
- 4 cups warm water
- 12 cup melted lard
- 4 teaspoons salt
- 14 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder (optional)
- 11 cups flour (approximately)
Directions

1Dissolve sugar in lukewarm water.

2Sprinkle yeast over liquid and let rise in a warm place for about 10 minutes.

3Add remaining ingredients except flour and baking powder.

4Sift flour and baking powder if desired (baking powder will add extra lightness to the bread).

5Add flour mixture to liquid mixture bit by bit.

6Knead into a smooth dough.

7Place in a greased bowl, cover and let rise in a warm place until double in bulk.

8Punch down and let rise again till double in bulk.

9Punch down again and shape into 4 loafs.

10Place into greased 8x4x3 inch loaf pans.

11Cover and let rise till dough has raise over the top of pan.

12Bake at 375F for 45 minutes, until golden brown.

13When done, bread will sound hollow when tapped with finger.
