- 6 scant c. plain flour
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 2 c. milk (scald can in water)
- 2 level tsp. salt
- 6 Tbsp. sugar
- 4 Tbsp. shortening
Directions

1Sprinkle yeast over 1/2 cup warm milk or water.

2Add rest of lukewarm liquid, salt and sugar.

3Mix well.

4Add all of flour. When partially mixed, add melted shortening.

5Mix well with hands. Keep sides of bowl clean.

6Turn out on lightly floured board; knead until smooth and bubbly.

7Cover; let stand until double in size in warm place.

8Knead down; divide dough for loaves, if desired.

9Place in well-greased pans; let rise until double.

10Bake at 400° for the first 20 minutes.

11Reduce heat to 350°; bake until well browned and shrunk from sides of pan.

12Makes 2 loaves.
