- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 3/4 c. warm water
- 2 2/3 c. warm water
- 1/4 to 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 5 to 6 Tbsp. shortening
- 9 to 10 c. flour
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in 3/4 cup warm water, stir in 2 2/3 cups more warm water, sugar, salt, shortening and 5 cups flour, beat until smooth.

2Mix in enough flour to make the dough easy to handle. Turn dough onto lightly floured board, knead until smooth, about 10 minutes, place in greased bowl, turn greased side up, cover and let rise in warm place until double in size.

3Punch dough down, divide in half, roll each half into rectangle roll up, beginning at short side.

4With side of hand, press each end and seal, fold ends under loaf.

5Place seamed side down in greased loaf pan. Brush loaves with butter, bake at 425° for 30 to 35 minutes. Makes 2 loaves.
