- 2 c. sifted flour
- 1 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. emulsifier type shortening
- 1 c. milk
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 4 egg whites, beaten
Directions

1Sift dry ingredients together into bowl; add shortening, milk and vanilla.

2Beat 300 strokes with a spoon or 2 minutes with electric mixer at medium speed, until well blended.

3Add egg whites and beat 2 minutes more.

4Pour into 2 greased and lined 8-inch round layer pans.

5Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.
