- 1 1/2 c. white sugar
- 2 1/2 c. cake flour, sifted
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 c. water or milk
- 1/2 c. melted butter
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. lemon extract
- 5 egg whites
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. cream of tarter
Directions

1Measure the first 4 ingredients.

2Pour these dry ingredients together and sift the mixture six times.

3In a mixing bowl put the melted butter, water or milk and flavoring.

4Add 1/4 tsp. salt and cream of tarter to the egg whites and beat mixture until stiff. Sift dry ingredients into the butter mixture and beat until well blended, then fold the beaten egg whites into the flour and butter mixture.

5Turn into three greased pans measuring 7-inch or into two 9-inch pans.

6Bake at 375° for 30-35 minutes.
