- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 3 Tbsp. lukewarm water
- 4 c. flour (white)
- 1 c. whole wheat flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in water; set aside.

2Sift together dry ingredients in a bowl.

3Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal using a pastry blender.

4Add yeast mixture and buttermilk, stirring until soft dough forms.

5Knead 10 times.

6Cut into 2 1/2-inch rounds.

7Place on lightly greased pan.

8Bake in 350° oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
