Wine Poached Pears

9 ingredients
4 steps

Ingredients

  • 2 pears
  • 11/2 cup red wine
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 2 clove buds
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated ginger

Directions

  1. 1
Peel the pears but leave the stem, cut a thin slice from the bottom of each pear to make them stand better. Pour wine and orange juice into a pot, add sugar, orange zest and spices. Simmer at low heat until sugar dissolves.
  2. 2
Carefully place the pears into the pot, bring to boil, reduce the heat and simmer with closed lid for 30 to 40 minutes. To make sure the pears are well-soaked, leave them to cool in the liquid.
  3. 3
Take the pears out, and boil the liquid until it turns syrupy. Pour the syrup over the pears and serve with a scoop of ice cream or mascarpone.
  4. 4
And surely we cannot fail to mention a serving platter for the ready dish. WILMAX suggests you use a triangular WL-996103 plate to serve this wonderful dessert. Bon appetit!
