  • 6 c. plain flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 cakes yeast, dissolved in 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 2 1/3 c. buttermilk
  • 2 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 3 tsp. shortening

Directions

    Heat buttermilk until warm. Add remaining ingredients. Mix and knead until spongy. Roll out and cut with biscuit cutter. Let rise 1 hour. Bake at 375° until brown.
