- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 tsp. soda
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 1/2 c. lukewarm water
- 5 c. self-rising flour
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
Directions

1Preheat oven to 400°.

2Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.

3Sift flour, soda, sugar into a large bowl.

4Cut in shortening.

5Add buttermilk, yeast (dissolved), stir and mix well.

6Let mixture (dough) stand in a warm place for about 15 minutes.

7Then pour out onto floured counter or cutting board.

8Roll out with floured rolling pin to about 1/2 inch thickness.

9Cut out biscuits and place in baking pan.

10Bake about 15 minutes.

11Makes about 30 biscuits.
