- 5 1/2 to 6 c. all-purpose flour
- 3 Tbsp. baking powder
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 Tbsp. salt (scant)
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. warm water
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Into a large bowl, sift the flour, baking powder, sugar, baking soda and salt.

2Add the shortening and cut in with a pastry blender.

3In a small bowl, mix the yeast with the warm water, stir until yeast is dissolved.

4Add the buttermilk.

5Pour liquid mixture into the flour mixture and mix.

6Put out onto a floured board and knead well.

7(Mixture may be kept in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.)
