Yeast Butterhorns

  • 1 cake (or pkg.) yeast, dissolved in 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1 egg, beaten well
  • 2 c. scalded milk, cooled to lukewarm
  • 3 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2/3 c. shortening, melted (not oil, butter is especially good)
  • 6 c. flour
  • 3 Tbsp. instant potatoes

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in water in small container.

    Let it soak while beating egg in cup.

    Put the sugar and salt into a large mixing bowl.

    Pour scalded milk over it and stir.
  5. 5
    Add yeast, being sure to scrape it all out, next add beaten egg and stir again.

    Now add 3 cups flour and stir until blended.

    Add melted butter (be sure it isn't hot) blend, add 3 more cups flour and stir until blended but do not knead as with most yeast doughs.
