Ingredients

  • 4 c. scalded milk
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 9 Tbsp. melted shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cakes yeast
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 5 c. flour (enough to make dough stiff enough to knead)

Directions

    Scald milk; cool.

    Melt shortening and add to scalded milk. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.

    When milk is cool, add flour, salt and sugar sifted together, a small amount at a time.

    Stir well and add vanilla, beaten eggs and yeast before dough gets too stiff.

    Knead well on a floured board.

    Have a soft dough.
