Ingredients

  • 2 c. milk, scalded
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2/3 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. crushed cardamom seed
  • 1 tsp. ground cardamom
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 pkg. granular yeast
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 c. white raisins
  • 2 c. mixed cherries and pineapple (glace), cut
  • 4 c. flour

    Combine milk, shortening, sugar and spices.

    Cool to lukewarm. Add yeast, softened, in warm water.

    Add eggs and mix well.

    Add flour; beat well.

    Add fruits and remaining flour.

    Let rise until double in bulk. Punch down and knead lightly.

    Form into 3 loaves. Grease pans.

    Let rise until double in bulk.

    Bake in 350° oven for 45 minutes.

    While warm, brush with melted butter.
