- 1 c. butter
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1 1/2 tsp. allspice
- 1 c. raisins
- 1 c. chopped nuts
- 1 c. jam (with seeds; strawberry or blackberry is best)

1Cream the butter. Gradually add sugar and cream until light and

2fluffy. Add well beaten eggs. Sift flour and add spices and a pinch of salt. Sift again.

3Add soda to buttermilk. Alternate ingredients, flour and liquid, ending with flour.

4Mix in fruit and nuts.

5Add jam last. Grease pans. Bake at 325° for 40 minutes.
