  • 5 eggs, beaten
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 c. jam (with seeds; strawberry or blackberry is best)

    Cream the butter. Gradually add sugar and cream until light and

    fluffy. Add well beaten eggs. Sift flour and add spices and a pinch of salt. Sift again.

    Add soda to buttermilk. Alternate ingredients, flour and liquid, ending with flour.

    Mix in fruit and nuts.

    Add jam last. Grease pans. Bake at 325° for 40 minutes.
